Baba the Storyteller

A contemporary traveling troubadour living in the United States, Baba the Storyteller displays unique talents and skills. His fluency in five languages, mastery of the ancient Kora (West African storyteller’s harp), and the depth of his understanding and knowledge of his craft make him a much sought after speaker.

Baba the storyteller has been bringing African culture to the Los Angeles area for at least 10 years, that I know of. His contributions are much appreciated and I hope Baba continues his sensitive, enlightening, entertaining storytelling with a message. He goes deep and shares/heals us with the wisdom of the village, intermingled his message with the sweet sounds of the African kora. Baba also offers assembly programs and workshops to museums, schools (primary/middle/secondary), libraries and colleges & universities. Having performed at literally thousands of venues, Baba’s interpersonal performance skills are adaptable to everything from the smaller, more intimate setting to large auditoriums and everything in between.

For many K-12 school districts Baba also hosts Teacher Workshops on merging The Art & Science of Storytelling with classroom instruction. Baba’s workshop “Teachers as Tellers” helps participants to see themselves as storytellers and employ skill sets that they may already possess.

A gifted harpist, Baba’s workshops on the Kora (ancient 21-string West African Harp) have been supported and/or funded by such organizations as the National Endowment for the Arts, The Public Corporation for the Arts, California Arts Council, The City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department and many others. Baba also offers individual and group Kora instruction.
