Baba performing at the Getty Museum Los AngelesBaba has been a favored performer at many of the local museums in his residence of Southern California for many years. He performs regularly at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and has been commissioned twice by them to choreograph/design interpretive performance pieces that wed the visual with movement, sound and interactivity.

The Long Beach Museum of Art has a special place in Baba’s heart. They were one of the institutions responsible for his nomination, and subsequent awarding of that City’s Artist of the Year; an honor that remains a highlight of his artistic career. Through the Long Beach Museum of Art, Baba has had the opportunity to work with visiting schools and special projects encouraging the growth of student’s imaginations and artistic awareness.

In 2007, Baba completed a commissioned performance piece, which he designed for The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The performance combined music, tri-lingual delivery and storytelling as a means of interpreting and offering imaginative stimuli for the sculpture: “That Profile.”

Designing performances for new installations or permanent collections of art is a challenge that Baba loves. “Forcing me out of my comfort zone of what is customary,” says Baba, “is welcomed; it enhances my creativity and growth as, not only an artist, but also as a man.”
